Foreday Riders
A working blues band since 1967, the Foreday Riders celebrate their 58th anniversary of the band. The King Brothers, Ron (harmonica, vocals) and Jeff (guitar, Dobro) were foundation members and remain happy ‘backroom boys’ in the present outfit.
Rosscoe ‘Stinger’ Clark (drums) has been with the Riders since 1982. At that time he already had a reputation as a master shuffle player with the Cyril B. Bunter band, and has over the years worked with Ray Beadle and the Vipers, Bridie King, Darren Jack and Alison Penney among others. Around Sydney he is decidedly the ‘go-to’ guy for blues drumming.
Stan ‘sleepy’ Mobbs on bass guitar is another Riders veteran, with the band since 1990. Like Rosscoe, Stan is in demand around Sydney’s blues circuit, and has worked with Mal Eastick, Christina Crofts, Darren Jack, and for some years now, teamed up with Rosscoe as the rhythm section for U.S. blues star Chris Cain on his regular tours down under. Stan’s rock-solid yet swinging bass lines round off a rhythm section of irresistable drive – ‘Sleepy’ has almost never let the band down.
As long-serving performers at the annual Thredbo Blues Festival, the Foreday Riders are very pleased to be involved in the 30th anniversary of the event in January 2025. The Rider’s line-up for the festival will be the core members of the band, founders Ron & Jeff King (harmonica/guitar & Dobro), Sleepy Stan Mobbs on electric bass, and Rosscoe ‘The Stinger’ Clark on drums. The regular Riders’ front man, Shane Pacey is unfortunately unable to appear at Thredbo, but the band has been fortunate in finding an ideal replacement in an old friend, iconic guitarist/vocalist Steve Edmonds, another Thredbo veteran. Steve has worked very successfully as a deputy with the Riders before, and the band looks forward to teaming up with him for this special occasion at Thredbo.
The Riders are not a prolific recording band, but they have issued eleven albums, the most recent being Durn Tootin’ featuring Ray Beadle in 2022.
The Riders’ credo: work hard and play hard – at every gig! That’s our intention in 2025.
