The Hip Replacements
Profile of The Hip Replacements
We’re called the Hip Replacements (just for fun) and we play blues /rock music with a groove. We’re a five (5) piece group based in the Snowy Mountains, all loving the halcyon music days of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.
1. Jeremy Paul, bass player and vocals, formerly a founding member of Air Supply and Divinyls
2. Ian “Gunther” Gorman, lead guitar and vocals, formerly a member of Daddy Cool, Sherbet and Richard Clapton Ban
3. Stu Hodges, lead vocals, guitar and harmonica
4. Sue Sell, keys and vocals
5. Wayne Kirkpatrick, drummer
The band has played together for four (4) years and has built a solid fan base, it’s very popular in the Snowy Mountains and Canberra regions. We opened the outdoor Chris Isaak concert in Thredbo in 2013 before a crowd of 4,000, we play regularly at various local venues, we’ve performed at the annual Perisher Valley Peak Music Festival held over the June Long Weekend the past 4 years in succession, we’ve played at the Harley Davidson Owner’s Rally in Queanbeyan, at the 22nd Annual Thredbo Blues Music Festival in January, 2016, the 20th Annual Bombala Bike Show in November 2016 and the 20th Annual Tumbafest in Tumbarumba in February, 2017 all to great acclaim.
We perform for the fun and pure enjoyment of playing great music. It’s so good to have music appreciators and dancers alike rocking along to us.
Our repertoire pays homage to great blues/rock muso’s like Rocky Athas, Walter Trout, Joe Bonamassa, Jimmy Thackery, Gary Moore, Chris Rea, Michael Burks, John Mayall, JJ Cale, The Nimmo Brothers, Coco Montoya and it includes a selection of songs by Atlanta Rhythm Section, Steely Dan, Van Morrison, Bachman & Turner amongst others.
The Hip Replacements put their own spin on each song and the key ingredient for every song … is a nice solid groove! Grooves that must be danced to!
